'I cannot name one book that offers as much. Churchill Livingstone publishes an MCQ book related to Kumar & Clark Clinical Medicine - the questions in this book seem harder than the standard required for finals, and the explanations given to answers are not as strong as the proposed Cockshoot & Monfredi book.'

'I feel strongly that the questions provided (both MCQ/ EMQ) cover a good range of conditions '

'I particularly liked the way in which answers to questions were presented (something done badly in several MCQ books). Plenty of explanation was given for each set of answers, and there was a good commentary on the patterns of clinical presentation (e.g. chest pain). I also liked the frequent suggested mnemonics to remember the causes of each condition'

'I liked the authors' style and presentation - particularly their use of diagrams, and highlighting key terms. '

'The material is comprehensive and accurate.'

'It is useful that both authors have experience of being an undergraduate medical student, and that one author is a current lecturer. Both authors can therefore bring their experiences to this book, in terms of making it relevant and useful to undergraduates, and to those teaching undergraduate students.'

'One of the main advantages of this book over its competitors is that it encompasses preparation for several types of examination (MCQ/ EMQ/ OSCE) and I don't feel there are any other books around that do this. I also feel that this book is better than others in terms of the explanations given to MCQ answers and suggested mnemonics.'

'Three things for this book to have an edge over the competition; Comprehensiveness; Usefulness for all examination formats; Clear in giving help for memorising information.'

Student Reviews

'Well laid out and comprehensive'

'Good writing and presentation. To the point. I like their use of mnemonics and their style of writing.'

'I was really impressed by UM. The questions and more importantly the detailed explanations are just at the level you need.'

'The real strength of the book is the OSCE section - if you learn this section well you are equipped with just about all the knowledge you need for the wards as well as the exam itself.'

'What I like about UM is it is not just a series of lists; the writers offer good tips about how to answer questions in the actual exam, and concentrate on important 'high yield' topics.'

'Very good, very easy to use.'

'I remember picking this book up in a book shop and flicking through it, and thought it was just another book of lists. It is actually so much more than this.'

'Yes, I am going to recommend UM to my friends.'

'The thoroughness of the authors approach commends this publication.'

'An excellent style.'

'The presentation is ideal.'

'I was just knocked out by the OSCE section!'

'I thought the approach and format the book takes is quite original.'

'I certainly think that those who use UM and see what a good book it is will be wondering if there is one for specialities as well’ (Its presently being written – expected late 2006).'
